Product information:

Riffe’s wooden spearguns have finally hit the UK at long last!! The Padauk range is identical to Riffes award winning competitor series except for the wood they are made out of. The Padauk’s are created from a truly beautiful African blood wood.

It’s hard to get over how stunning these guns actually are and like most spectacular sights; these pictures really don’t do them enough justice. Holding one for the first time is a real experience that makes you want to wall mount it instead of getting it wet!

Once you get over the very real ‘wow factor’ and start assessing its practicality for hunting, the real satisfaction kicks in. Everything about this gun screams quality, from the carved groves for securing the shooting line at the tip, to the action of the 2 piece trigger mechanism. They feel light like carbon yet strong like aluminium. Meaning you won’t be worried about damaging it when you sling it into the boot of your car in that race to beat hypothermia that we all do at the end of a dive.

The safety catch, chunky ergonomic handle and the stock all give this gun a very different feel to all the traditional spearguns we have used. By this I mean it feels more like a hand crafted rifle over the traditional length of plumbers pipe with a handle stuck on the end. This is topped off by each gun having its very own serial number carved in the butt which you can register directly with Riffe.

Needless to say we are completely stoked to be the first UK Company to represent Riffe spearguns in the UK, which more accurately translates as “we are completely stocked to have unlimited Riffe toys to play with” 🙂

Model information

Okay, so there are 2 models to choose from of which can both have an extra-long butt if wanted. The traditional Padauk model is called the Hawaiian and will probably be our best seller. Not because it’s the cheapest version, but because it’s best suited to the UK. Double bands and a 7mm spear mean this things is still probably over powered for local waters – it packs some serious heat!

The upgraded version is oddly called the ‘standard set-up’ and is represented by an ‘S’. It’s a beast boasting triple rubbers, a thicker shaft with exchangeable tips! Very, very cool if you’re intending to use it for some bigger stuff.

Sizes

Although Riffe uses a different naming system to what we are used to, the sizes are all pretty much the same.

Riffe #1 = Feels like an RA80

Riffe #2 = Feels like an RA90

Riffe #3 = Feels like an RA100

Remember that where most traditional spearguns stop at the handle, Riffe has small stock which make 100% accurate comparisons tricky. Also, remember that the ‘X’ versions have a slightly longer stock.

My recommendation (Tony Eynon):

”While I love the ability to change the tips on the ‘S’ versions, it’s overkill for the UK and suitable for trips abroad, especially with the 8mm shaft and triple rubbers. I’ll be taking an ‘S’ abroad with me for sure however for the UK I will definitely be packing the Hawaiian. Size wise I personally find the #2 perfect for UK conditions and normally use a RA90 anyway. Can’t describe how much I love these guns and the deep red wood colour with gum bands is just outstanding – happy days :-)”
